How this is scored

Four criteria, scored 5 / 3 / 1. Each one has a short list of things that have to be there — miss one and it is a 3, miss more than one and it is a 1.

Read this first

This rubric works differently from a points-out-of-100 sheet. For each criterion there is a list of requirements. A 5 means every item on the list is present. A 3 means one is missing. A 1 means more than one is missing.

So it pays to check the lists below against your own work before you present. Most lost points on this project are things students simply forgot, not things they did badly.

Criterion 1

Desktop Organizer Case Study

Did you study what already exists before designing your own?

5 · Full

All three present:

  • Multiple examples included
  • Analysed across specific criteria you chose
  • User feedback included
3 · Partial

One of the three missing.

1 · Minimal

More than one missing.

Criterion 2

Sketches

Did you generate real options before committing to one?

5 · Full

All three present:

  • Multiple concept sketches — at least three different ideas
  • Quick, but not careless
  • Sketches communicate the design elements of the product — luxury, reliability, sleek and so on
3 · Partial

One of the three missing.

1 · Minimal

More than one missing.

Criterion 3

Elevations and Perspective

Could somebody else build your design from your drawings?

5 · Full

All three present:

  • Three elevations — top, front and side — drawn correctly, one view per sheet
  • Each sheet includes dimensions, labels, and its own title block (name, part, view, scale)
  • Perspective drawing is done neatly in two point perspective
3 · Partial

One of the three missing.

1 · Minimal

More than one missing.

Criterion 4

Model Build

Did you build safely and think before you cut?

5 · Full

Both present:

  • Safety procedures are always used while building
  • Critical thinking about building dimensions used to minimize waste
3 · Partial

One of the two missing.

1 · Minimal

Both missing.

Your presentation has to show all four

The rubric above is scored from what you present. That means your deck must contain pictures of every piece of work, not just the finished model:

Take the drawing photos in good light, straight on, with the whole sheet in frame. A blurry photo of a good elevation scores like a bad elevation, because nobody can see it.

Before you present, check yourself

Run down this list. It is the same list the rubric uses, in the order you did the work.

Your daily work — safety, cleanup, notebook, effort — is not scored here. That is on the grading page under weekly standards.
